MBABANE:Sibongile Mazibuko, the President of the Ngwane National Liberatory Congress (NNLC) has warned Swazis to stop believing in a foreign ‘Messiah’ that will assist them in the struggle for democracy.
This comes after emaSwati expressed their excitement in the Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema’s visit hoping he would address the issues surrounding democracy and the current political unrest in the country.
However, the President signed two memorandum of understanding that would enhance trade and investment between eSwatini and Zambia.
Speaking to this Swaziland News on Sunday, the NNLC President said things were normal in this country adding that emaSwati needed to stand up and fight for democracy.
“The international community will only intervene and mediate once there's is total chaos, we can't expect foreign leaders to intervene when the situation is this calm.EmaSwati need to fight on their own not to expect a foreign ‘Messiah' to fight for them,”said the NNLC President.
In an online statement, the Zambian President expressed his excitement in signing two memorandum of understanding with the Kingdom of Eswatini that would see enhanced trade and investment opportunities between the two nations, in areas such as Tourism, Agriculture, Mining and Energy.
"We are extremely grateful to the Kingdom of Eswatini and His Majesty King Mswati III for agreeing to foster these very important issues for the benefit of all", reads the statement in part.
Reached for comments, Lucky Lukhele, the Spokesperson of the Swaziland Solidarity Network (SSN)warned the Zambian President that such agreements would not be binding in a democratic Swaziland.
"All these leaders in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region and Africa as a whole are more like a club of billionaires, who do not care about the ordinary people. We want to caution these leaders that whatever deal that they sign, that would be a deal between two friends that would not be binding in a democratic Swaziland. We will not be bound by deals that were signed by criminals in the middle of the night”, he said.
Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema has been in Eswatini for a three day visit over the weekend and was treated to a State bouquet by King Mswati at Lozitha Palace in celebration of his birthday.
