TOHOYANDOU: Freedom fighter Amos Mbedzi believed that freedom should not be limited to border gates.
This is contained in his quote which is inscribed on his tombstone which was unveiled at his funeral in Makonde,Tohoyandou on Sunday.
The qoute is in relation to his role in the struggle for democracy in Swaziland.
“My view of freedom is not limited to border gates. I am not free if my fellow brothers and sisters are still oppressed. The route of liberation chose me, I will fight for my people selflessly”,reads the qoute.
Mbedzi was sentenced to 85 years of imprisonment by the High Court of Swaziland after he allegedly attempted to assassinate King Mswati in 2008 in the Lozitha bridge bombing accident. He died on the 7th June 2022, in a South African hospital after being released by the eSwatini Government from prison a few months ago due to his heath condition which was quickly deteriorating.
