Friday, 17th June, 2022

BIG-BEND: Senator Mancoba Khumalo, the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade says the sugar industry has created jobs in the country and further enhanced economic development.

Speaking during the official opening of a new Bagging Facility and Warehouse at Ubombo Sugar in Big Bend, the Commerce Minister who was represented by Labour Minister Phila Buthelezi said growth in one sector translated to growth in the economy.

“Growth in one sector translates to growth in the economy of the country through exports, the export earnings thereof, and the multiplier effects from those activities,” said the Commerce as quoted by Government online platforms.

On another note, Phil Mnisi, the outgoing Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of the Eswatini Sugar Association(ESA) said one of the four strategic objectives in ESA’s Corporate Strategy and Marketing Plan 2021-2026, was to focus on the diversification across new markets, products and the supply chain.

“This multi-million investment was critical to achieve one of the initiatives that feed into this objective, that is, diversifying into new markets,” he said.
