SIGCINENI: King Mswati’s Government approved the construction of a road leading to Information,Communication and Technology(ICT) Minister Princess Sikhanyiso’s residence at Sigcineni in the Manzini region.
The office of the Government Spokesperson Alpheous Nxumalo released an online statement saying the Government was continuing with the construction of roads in the rural areas.
“The Ministry of Public Works continues with the construction of roads in the rural areas including the construction of the Sigcineni -Sibovu Road which is now at 80% completion. The project has employed 38 emaSwati so far,” reads the online statement.
It has been disclosed that the road was not only a rural development project but it was influenced by the construction of King Mswati’s daughter Princess Sikhanyiso’s residence in that area.
Eswatini citizens are struggling with poor roads both in the urban and rural areas, the Government normally posts a few road projects on its online platforms to diffuse the public criticism.
Reached for comments,Oscar Nkambule, the President of the National Public Services and Allied Workers(NAPSAWU)said as civil servants, they sometimes realized that other projects like roads were influenced by those in power because of their interests.
“We are in support of development but we condemn the abuse of State resources to systematically benefit few individuals,” he said.
