MBABANE:Mswati’s Government has announced bread price increase a week after increasing the fuel prices.
In a public statement released on Monday,Manqoba Khumalo, the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade announced that the price of bread would increase by 20.76% with effect from 13 July 2022.
“The increase has been brought about by the prevailing economic conditions that have prompted an upward shift in the prices of raw materials used in bread production,”reads the statement.
A loaf of white bread is expected to cost R15.29 while brown bread will cost R13.68.
Reached for comments, Nompulelo Motsa, the President of the Economic Freedom Fighters of Swaziland (EFFSWA) said this was so disappointing adding that this could only be done by a Government which does not value the people.
“It's so disappointing, but what can we expect from this Government which does not value the people? We can't even afford a daily meal from the peanuts they are paying us. We are living from hand to mouth, there’s nothing new, they can't even increase the COLA for their employees let alone review the minimum wage for all workers yet they are making millions out of the poor,”said the EFFSWA President.
