Water Aid constructs modern toilets, change rooms worth R1.2 million for Sigombeni Primary School.

SIGOMBENI: Water Aid in collaboration with the United Nations International Children's Emergency (UNICEF) has constructed modern toilets and change rooms worth R1.2million at Sigombeni Primary School.

Eswatini has about 70% of the population living below the poverty line, a majority of the population including school children have no access to proper sanitation and hygiene. 

Speaking to this Swaziland News,Water Aid Director Ncamiso Mhlanga said the facility was world class and was constructed after a teacher from the school informed them about the school's dilapidated toilets. 

“This facility consists of flushed toilets for boys and girls,two units for children with disabilities and separate male and female teachers  toilets with menstrual hygiene facilities and showers,this cost around R1.2 million and will cater for 250 children of the area",he said. 

Reached for comments Musa Phiri, the Headteacher at Sigombeni Primary school thanked Water Aid for such a kind gesture.

“The situation was really bad and we would like to thank Water Aid for such a beautiful project",said the Headteacher.
