NGCINA: Constable Ayanda Makhanya sold his cattle on Thursday, preparing to secretly flee to exile as Solidarity Forces are hot on his heels.

It has been disclosed that Constable Makhanya of Ngcina, Siteki who drives a white Mercedes Benz C320, is allegedly wanted by the Solidarity Forces for his active involvement in targeting members of the Underground Unit, his name appears in the list of police officers including State detectives targeted by the Solidarity Forces.

*Mabandla Shongwe, a close family member told this publication that Constable Makhanya stopped reporting for duty after learning that the Solidarity Forces were very close to strike.

“He sold his cattle yesterday(Wednesday)and was supposed to leave the same day. However, the person who bought the cattle promised to pay today(Friday)so he might leave today if everything goes according to his plans. As we speak, he is hiding at Siteki, Ngcina area waiting for the payment,” said a close family member.

Reached for comments, the Commander of the Solidarity Forces confirmed that  Constable Ayanda Makhanya remains on their wanted list.

“This officer committed a crime against a just cause of the people by targeting our forces, he can run but he cannot hide, the crime he committed is unforgivable. But he is not the only officer, we have a list of those who tortured our forces,” said the Commander.

Efforts to reach Constable Ayanda Makhanya proved unsuccessful at the time of compiling this report.

A questionnaire was sent to Superintendent Phindile Vilakati, however, she had not responded at the time of compiling this report.

On Friday afternoon, the family member who alerted this publication that Constable Makhanya was about to flee, sent a message confirming that the officer had been paid.

“I was confirming here, the people who went to his home to pay for the cattle said he stated that now that he has been paid, he will buy an air ticket and will inform Government about his resignation once he arrives in exile,” said the family member.

Eswatini is in the midst of a political crisis after King Mswati unleashed soldiers and the police to shoot and kill dozens of civilians merely for demanding democratic reforms.

This resulted to the establishment of pro-democracy Underground Forces who are protecting the citizens by targeting Mswati’s security forces.
