MBABANE: An online investigation that penetrated the data system of Nomakunini Technologies reveals how Philani Maswati, a royalty linked Charity Organization sold less than one thousand(1000) tickets during the Biggest Braai 2022.
The event was held at the Mavuso Trade Centre on Friday and the State controlled media reported that, the biggest braai that used to record close to five thousand(5000) before the political unrest was a huge ‘success’.
But an independent investigation by this Swaziland News uncovered evidence suggesting that Nomanini Technologies, a company that was contracted to sell the Biggest Braai tickets sold seven hundred and eighty-five(785) tickets, fifty four(54) for parking and three hundred and twenty one(321) were distributed as complementary tickets.
A complimentary ticket is a ticket that has not been purchased and is provided at no charge to the recipient.
The data further reveals that five hundred and twenty-two(522) Swazis bought ‘Entrance Only’ tickets with no braai packs.
Seven(7) companies bought Platinum tickets with braai packs for employees and only one(1) company bought the Platinum tickets with no braai packs.
The evidence and or data further reveals that thirty-two(32) individuals bought Silver tickets including braai packs while twelve(12) bought the Silver tickets without braai packs.
Reached for comments, Thabo Magagula, the Managing Director of Nomakunini Technologies, a company that was contracted to sell the tickets declined to comment when asked whether the event was a success or not, saying he was only contracted to sell the tickets.
“I am not in a better position to comment on whether the Biggest Braai was a success or not, we were only contracted to sell the tickets. Kindly contact Lutfo Dlamini,” said the Director of Nomakunini Technologies.
The Political Parties Assembly(PPA) had urged Swazis to boycott the royalty-linked Biggest Braai in honour of the citizens who were allegedly shot and killed by King Mswati’s security forces during the political unrest.
A questionnaire was sent to Ndzingeni Member of Parliament(MP)Lutfo Dlamini, the Chairperson of Philani Maswati Charity Organization, however, he had not responded at the time of compiling this report.
Speaking to this Swaziland News, Mlungisi Makhanya, the President of the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO) thanked Swazis for boycotting the Biggest Braai.
“We have always mantained that the only thing that is keeping Mswati in power is the military and the corporate accomplices who are funding this system because they are benefiting financially. We want to thank our people for responding overwhelmingly to the call by the pro-democracy movement to stay away from the so called biggest braai. Again this is evident that power has changed hands in Swaziland, though not official, the people who are now providing direction where people should go and be listened to without the use of any force, is the pro-democracy movement,” said the PUDEMO President.
Worth-noting, the royalty linked biggest braai has been recording close to five thousand(5000) participants.
The success of the event was last recorded before King Mswati and his mother Queen Ntombi Tfwala, the Patron of Philani Maswati unleashed soldiers and the police to kill dozens of civilians merely for demanding democratic reforms.
