MBABANE: Pro-democracy junior officers are crying for leadership, they want to play a role in ousting King Mswati.
Speaking to this Swaziland News on Wednesday,a police officer who was speaking on behalf of some of his colleagues said it was very unfortunate that their lives were in danger yet they also wanted democracy.
This comes after members of the Swaziland International Solidarity Forces(SISF) intensified the shooting of police officers in retaliation to the killing of civilians by Mswati’s police and soldiers.
“What we want is a clear guidance on what we must do to remove Mswati, we don’t want to physically meet pro-democracy activists as some comrades might not trust us, we have our own group. We need a leader who will unite and command us as police officers, police officers were trained to be commanded. This could be completed in one day, once a group of certain police officers take rifles and meet somewhere, then we start. Nankha emaphoyisa afile nyalo, kube bekubantfu labaphilako laba labasiphetse ngabe betfukile, badzala labantfu kute intfo labayicabangako lephilako,” he said.
The police officer further revealed that even senior officers at the Police Headquarters were now divided.
“Deputy Commissioner Masango now reports straight to the King, nyalo sekubanga Tsintsabala naMasango. Ngoba phela lomuntfu lomdzala ukuva kahle nawufika utsi uyabona mine ngitamsusa zibani, ngoba kukhuluma kwalelive leli kutsi ubulale umuntfu. So Masango banengi labantfu lekatsembisa iNkhosi kutsi utabasusa vele wabasusa, so nyalo so reportha direct,” he said.
A questionnaire was sent to police Spokesperson Superintendent Phindile Vilakati, however, she had not responded at the time of compiling this report.
Reached for comments, Sergeant Cebile ‘Cece’ Shongwe of the newly formed Police Union assured pro-democracy police officers that they would soon be given direction on what to do.
“We are finalizing the systems of communication, I think in two weeks they will be addressed on a way forward,” she said.
