MBABANE: Clayson Monyela, the Director General of the South African Department of International Relations and Cooperation(DIRCO)says they will engage the eSwatini Government to seek clarity regarding sentiments that were allegedly uttered by Government Spokesperson Alpheous Nxumalo during an interview on SAFM.
This comes after Nxumalo, in a heated interview on Tuesday alleged that “South Africa is infested with a cancer of criminality from head to toe”.
The Government Spokesperson was being interviewed by Sakina KaMwendo regarding sentiments by former Economic Freedom Fighters(EFF) Secretary General Godrich Gardee who alleged that King Mswati orchestrated the killing of his daughter Hillary Gardee.
“We will certainly be taking this issue up, we will not allow for inaccurate statements, covered with insults to be hauled at the Government of South Africa and the people of this country,” said the Director General of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation when interviewed by SAFM on Tuesday.
King Mswati, who now stands accused of killing Hillary Gardee in an alleged politically motivated murder case allegedly unleashed soldiers and the police to shoot and kill dozens of civilians merely for demanding democratic reforms.
Godrich Gardee, the father to murdered Hillary Gardee was active in organizing border blockades that were hitting hard on Mswati’s businesses.
The looming diplomatic tension between South Africa and eSwatini over the Government Spokesperson’s sentiments comes amid efforts by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa to try and find solutions to the ongoing political crisis in the country.
President Ramaphosa is the Chairperson of the South African Development Community(SADC) Troika on Politics, Defense and Security.
