MBABANE: Police officer Thulani Mthembu, the son to the late alleged serial killer Deputy Commissioner Sam Mthembu was allegedly shot by members of the Ground Forces on Friday evening.
Deputy Commissioner Sam Mthembu died of COVID-19 in 2021, he was the Head of Mswati’s Tingculungculu Unit that traces and kill critics of the Tinkhundla regime.
The shooting happened at Ngculwini where the police officer, together with other family members, was preparing for cleansing(kukhumula tinzilo) for his father.
The shooting of Malkerns based police officer Thulani Mthembu was confirmed by the female Commander of the Ground Forces who is heading a unit of the Solidarity Forces on Friday evening.
“It’s true, we arrived at Ngculwini and we pumped-in four(4) bullets to the police officer.The members of the Ground Forces where from an operation, unfortunately, they did not find their high profile target. On their way back, they received information that at a certain homestead, there were police officers and they invaded and shot Thulani Mthembu,”said the female Commander of the Ground Forces.
Superintendent Phindile Vilakati, the Police Spokesperson had not responded at the time of compiling this report.
Eswatini is in the midst of a political unrest after King Mswati unleashed his soldiers and the police to shot and kill dozens of civilians merely for demanding democratic reforms.
