DPP not aware of editor’s fabricated terrorism allegations.

Wednesday, 17th August, 2022

MBABANE: “Please leave the Director of Public Prosecution(DPP) Phila Dlamini out of the editor’s fabricated terrorism allegations”.

These were the sentiments of high profile insiders within the DPP’s office who reacted to an article published by this Swaziland News where it was alleged that editor Zweli Martin Dlamini was linked to terrorism.

The name of the editor was included in an indictment where Simanga Sigwili Vilakati and Thandokuhle Galimese Dlamini are facing terrorism charges.

“The DPP is not aware of this matter, there are people in this office who fabricated the whole case to include the editor. At some point,he even asked how is the editor linked to whole thing because he was not at the scene of crime. The fear is that people are now pushing their own political agendas in the matter while putting the life of the DPP in danger.Lentfo lena ifana nalelihhovisi lakaMaster, likhulu, kusuka bantfu labasebentako bagile tiga, bese kutsiwa ngu-Master, nalana kunjalo. After reading the article, we tried to investigate the issue of the indictment and discovered that they served Nkambule by email, it wasn’t even signed,” said the insider within the DPP’s office.

Reached for comments, DPP Phila Dlamini declined to comment on the matter.

“No comment,” said the DPP.

The insiders who spoke to this publication said they were extremely worried about the safety of the DPP knowing that even in the matter of the pro-democracy Members of Parliament(MPs) Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube, he tried to advise that there was no evidence to prosecute them, but others within the office went on to charge the pro-democracy MPs.

The insiders shared some sensitive evidence substantiating that indeed the DPP has been advising that the law must be followed in such matters instead of pushing political agendas.

The evidence cannot be shared to the public to protect our sources and due to the sensitivity of the politically motivated matter.

Reached for comments, lawyer Maxwell Nkambule who represents the accused persons allegedly to linked to the Swaziland International Solidarity Forces(SISF) confirmed that the matter was clouded by controversy.

“The mere fact that they served us with an unsigned indictment, which was supposed to be signed by the DPP, that's an anomaly. They then went on to demand that the trial must begin knowing that we received statements yesterday afternoon and we had indicated that we want to instruct an advocate for the accused,”said the lawyer.

On another note, the sources within the DPP’s office said it would be unfortunate if the DPP Phila Dlamini could be attacked considering the political climate in the country yet officers within his office were taking orders from somewhere to push political agendas.

It has been disclosed that at the centre of pushing the politically motivated cases is one Mcebo Nxumalo who was also instrumental in  facilitating the prosecution of the pro-democracy MPs.
