MBABANE: MP Lutfo Dlamini, a Member of Parliament(MP) in eSwatini with links to royalty was pictured distributing only four(4) pieces of brown bread to the elderly during a recent event.
Eswatini is a tiny Kingdom situated in Southern Africa with about 70% of the population living below the poverty line, State resources and taxes are used to sustain the lavish lifestyle of King Mswati.
During royal events, poor citizens normally attend to receive bread and few pieces of meat just to sustain the breath in their bodies .
A questionnaire was sent to MP Lutfo Dlamini where he was asked to clarify the picture.
The the MP was specifically asked to confirm or deny if poverty was being used to oppress the people and induce loyalty, however, he had not responded at the time of compiling this report.
Reached for comments, Wandile Dludlu, the Secretary General of the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO) said the picture of the MP distributing pieces of bread remained an embarrassment to the senior citizens.
“That’s why we are fighting for democracy, we want an empowered society where people can afford to buy their own bread and live decent lives. These senior citizens who are receiving pieces of bread worked for this country for their entire lives, but they are receiving pieces of bread from the so called ‘father of the Nation’ who is close to the Queen Mother,” said the PUDEMO Secretary General.
