MBABANE: Oscar Nkambule, the President of the National Public Service and Allied Workers Union(NAPSAWU) has accused Government of union bashing after complaints suggesting that some unionized civil servants did not receive their salaries in full.
Speaking to this Swaziland News, the NAPSAWU President said eSwatini Government opted to award a 3% salary increment to civil servants who were not members of unions while some unionized civil servants did not receive their salaries in full.
“Government opted to award a 3% salary increment to civil servants who are not members of unions and this include security forces. Now, the problem is that some of our members did not receive their salaries in full and we are interpreting this as union bashing,” said the NAPSAWU President.
Mabulala Maseko, the Minister of Public Service recently announced that Government would award a 3% Cost Of Living Adjustment (COLA) to some civil servants including Headteachers who negotiated outside the Joint Negotiations Forum(JFN).
Speaking to this Swaziland News on earlier, the Minister said the Eswatini Principal Association(EPA)had a Recognition Agreement with Government adding that it had a right to negotiate for salaries on its own.
“The EPA has a right to negotiate with the employer just like the other unions. We are not worried about the division within the public service since that’s up to the civil servants to decide if they want to be divided\",said the Minister.
A questionnaire was sent to Government Spokesperson Alpheous Nxumalo, however, he had not responded responded at the time of compiling this report.
It has been disclosed that some civil servants had their salaries deducted this month of August while security officers including Headteachers received an 3% increment.
