NGWENYA: Parsons Transport allegedly contributed only five thousand Rands(R5,000.00) towards the funeral of Sithembiso Ntjingila, the truck driver who was shot dead in his line of duty at Richards Bay.
Phila Fakudze, the Chairman of the Eswatini Truck Drivers Association confirmed that the company contributed a mere R5,000.00 towards the funeral of Ntjingila.
"Yes it’s true, that company is illtreating its employees.A good example is the case of Sithembiso Ntjingila who was shot dead in Richard's Bay. The company only contributed R5000.00 towards his funeral, but he died in his line of duty and had worked for the company for years,” he said.
Reached for comments,Alywin Parsons, the Director of Parsons Transport said employee benefits were a private matter.
“The sharing of personal and employment linked benefits is directly part of a driver or person's personal information and cannot be shared and discussed without proper consent, at will in the public domain",said the Director.
Phila Buthelezi, the Minister of Labour and Social Security had not responded at the time of compiling this report.
Eswatini, a tiny Kingdom situated in Southern Africa with an unemployment rate which stands at 41%, has most of its skilled workers including truck drivers emigrating to neighbouring South Africa for employment opportunities.
