LUDZIDZINI: King Mswati says he reported the ongoing burning of structures and killings to the Southern African Development Community(SADC) and the regional body resolved to call a Troika meeting to address the political crisis in the country.
Addressing journalists at Ludzidzini Royal Residence on Tuesday upon his return from the SADC Summit in the Democratic Republic of Congo(DRC), the King said he told SADC that a political dialogue would have long taken place, however, the environment was not conducive and undermined by the burning of structures and killings.
Worth-noting, the King continued to host ritual events that include Incwala, Lusekwane, Buganu and uMhlanga under a political environment that he described as hostile.
The King said after presenting the report, SADC resolved to call Troika Summit to try and resolve the political crisis in the country.
“I told SADC that people are burning properties and killings are rife,” said the King.
The absolute Monarch who stands accused of unleashing soldiers and the police to kill dozens of civilians merely for demanding democratic reforms, said calling Sibaya would not be possible under the current situation.
Worth-noting, Mswati’s police shot and killed Mpaka residents last week, the King’s Army Commanders then sent armed soldiers to monitor the funeral of Thandekile Kunene.
Dozens have been killed by Mswati’s forces since the political unrest started in June 2021, the King subsequently commanded his police to shoot and kill more civilians during the Police Day.
He said police must be prepared to meet “eye for an eye” when dealing with what he described as insurgents.
