LOBAMBA: Armed police officers and soldiers were seen escorting maidens on Wednesday as they left the Ludzidzini Palace to cut the reed at Mpisi Farm.

This comes after National Commissioner William Dlamini addressed the media  assuring the maidens that security would be provided for those who would attend the ceremony.

The National Commissioner warned those thretening to disrupt the ceremony that police will deal with the them.

“We are, therefore, issuing a warning to those behind the threats to desist from the sabotage and intimidation they are perpetrating. Any criminal elements, which will be found committing acts intended to disturb the cultural ceremony, will be made to face the full might of the law,” said the National Commissioner as quoted by the Times.

Eswatini is in the midst of a political unrest after the King unleashed soldiers and the police to shoot and kill dozens of civilians merely for demanding democratic reforms.
