MBABANE: Wandile Dludlu, the Secretary General of the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO) has on behalf of the political organization, released a statement condemning the physical assault and attempted murder of the two Pro-Democracy MPs, Mthandeni Dube and Bacede Mabuza in the early morning of Thursday.
“The nation woke up to the unfortunate news that over 100 Correctional Officers viciously attacked the Members of Parliament with guns, fists, batons, and pepper sprayed at close range. The correctional officers were clad in riot gear, balaclavas, and stormed the prison cell where the MPs were sleeping with other inmates.
The attack and attempted murder of the MPs indicate the murderous and terrorist conduct of Mswati and his government to undermine and resist the genuine call for democratic change in the country. It is not enough for Mswati to arrest the MPs, denied them bail numerous times, and prolonged the trial of the MPs to try to break their spirit and denounce the genuine call for the emancipation of our people. To make matters worse, Mswati’s officers denied the two MPs an opportunity to seek medical assistance and consult their legal representation which is a serious violation of the MPs' right. The world must see what Mswati and his government are, a group of gangsters, murderous regime, bandits, and terrorists who have no regard for the rule of law, human rights and due process of the law,” reads the statement in part, released by PUDEMO.
On another note,Thantaza Silolo, the Spokesperson of the Swaziland Liberation Movement(SWALIMO) urged Swazis to rise and fight this regime.
“Disown this senseless regime and demand the release of the MPs immediately and also fight endlessly for the introduction of freedom and democracy in Swaziland so we are all guaranteed a better a safer environment without injustices by the state”, he said.
