MBABANE:Incarcerated pro-democracy Member of Parliament(MP) Mthandeni Dube is now struggling with his eyesight after being assaulted by warders who were acting on an order allegedly issued by King Mswati.
As a result, the MP was secretly rushed to Mbabane Government Hospital on Thursday, he was examined and treated at the Eye Department.
While the MP was being examined,some warders were standing outside ensuring that no one took pictures, however, insiders managed to capture more pictures
“His left eye is injured and he can’t read visuals, he only sees hand movement nakhona dvutane,” said an insider.
Reached for comments Ben J Simelane, the lawyer representing incarcerated pro-democracy MPs Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube earlier confirmed that his clients were assaulted by warders, however, he said the Correctional Services did not inform him that MP Mthandeni Dube would be rushed to hospital on Thursday.
“No one informed me that they are now taking him to hospital, please contact lawyer Mhlengi Mabuza or Thulani Maseko maybe they are aware,” said the lawyer.
When this publication reached lawyer Mhlengi Mabuza who was part of the pro-democracy MPs legal team, he confirmed that MP Mthandeni Dube was rushed to Mbabane hospital on Thursday.
“It’s true, I was at Matsapha Prison today to check on my clients and as I arrived, vehicles were leaving with him.I managed to see MP Bacede and when I asked him about Dube, he said they were taking him to hospital,” said the lawyer.
Superintendent Gugulethu Dlamini, the Correctional Services Spokesperson declined to comment on the matter.
The office of the Spokesperson earlier released a statement after this publication exclusively reported about the assault saying ‘minimum force’ was used on the MPs.
The MPs were assaulted by a group of warders who were acting on an order, allegedly issued by King Mswati, they were subsequently denied their right to medical-care.
