MBABANE: Busie Mayisela, the founder and Chairperson of the Swaziland Liberation Movement(SWALIMO) came hard on Mswati’s police for shooting Abigail Jele on the stomach despite being pregnant.
Jele, a member of the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO) was rushed to Siyaphila Clinic after being shot with teargas canisters on Thursday morning, this was during a demand for a political dialogue protest organized by the Swaziland United Democratic Front(SUDF).
“Mswati’s police have for a longtime demonstrated elements of torture and brutality amongst emaSwati. The shooting of an unarmed pregnant Jele attests not only to the violation of human rights in the country but in also victimization of our women and children. SWALIMO wants to condemn such behavior with all possible terms and i would like to warn Mswati’s police that they shall be responsible for and account for such acts of brutality, especially amongst our women,” said the SWALIMO Chairperson.
Eswatini Police Spokesperson Superintendent Phindile Vilakati declined to comment or respond to our questionnaire on the subject matter.
Mswati’s police went on a rampage on Thursday and shot the PUDEMO member and other protestors, dozens have been killed since the political unrest started.
