MBABANE: Nurses engaged in a protest on Wednesday after King Mswati's police fired teargas inside the Mbabane Government Hospital last week Friday during a protest by University students in demand for jobs and scholarships for all.
Among other grievances, the nurses complained about the shortage of drugs, the protest was joined by security guards who complained about working for two months without pay.
Reached for comments, Welcome Mdluli, the President of the Swaziland Democratic Nurses Union(SWADNU) confirmed the protest adding that nurses were not happy after the teargas affected their patients.
“The firing of the teargas inside the hospital forms part of the grievances, nurses are complaining that this affected their patients. There are many other issues within the hospital that need to be addressed, unfortunately, I am from a meeting now and will update on their complaints later,” said the Nurses Union President.
A questionnaire was sent to Health Minister Lizzie Nkosi, however, she had not responded at the time of compiling this report.
