Lawyer Sicelo Mngomezulu confirms pumping R140,000.00 to Magawugawu’s SWALIMO, Secretary General demands answers.

MBABANE: Sicelo Mngomezulu, the lawyer representing pro-democracy Members of Parliament(MPs) Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube has confirmed pumping-in one hundred and forty thousand Rands(R140,000.00) in support of the Swaziland Liberation Movement(SWALIMO).

The lawyer has been criticized and accused of being close to the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO) by rogue members of the organization after SWALIMO President Mduduzi Magawugawu Simelane disappeared with the money without declaring it even to his own Executive Commitee members.

“What is very disturbing here is that Magawugawu never came-out to declare the support he has been receiving from various political activists, he always pretends as if other activists hate him,” said a source close to the lawyer.

Reached for comments, pro-democracy lawyer Sicelo Mngomezulu confirmed supporting SWALIMO during its establishment.

“Ideally, one doesn’t comment on these, however, in the interest of accurate factual reporting and following the revelations by SWALIMO founding member, Mdabula Zulu, and your questions addressed to me, yes I can confirm that we have financially supported various activities by the party. These include the party’s first consultative meeting with other leaders in Pretoria, the Siphofaneni election, transport for travel to the protest actions at the SADC Summit in Pretoria, which was later cancelled, to name a few. Over  the past year, this support has exceeded E140 000.00. We will continue to support, where possible, all [legally sound] initiatives by various sectors of the society to advance the struggle for the liberation of the Swazi people, as they strive for a new democratic dispensation. The addition of SWALIMO into the political landscape has stimulated much interest from the broader society and, as I've stated before, it was a welcome development indeed. We urge all other business people to support our political parties; multi-party democracy will be ushered into Swaziland, everyone, including the Monarchy, must get used to it,” said the pro-democracy lawyer.

A questionnaire was sent to SWALIMO President Mduduzi Magawugawu Simelane, however, he had not responded at the time of compiling this report.

But Siphetfo Dlamini, the Secretary General of the Swaziland Liberation Movement(SWALIMO) said their President never declared the financial support to them as the Executive Committee.

“Cha angiyati as SG, it’s an important issue that must come or the NEC must be appraised if such a donation exists. We can’t receive such a huge amount and mantain sealed lips as if nothing has happened, it’s a big contribution and it’s outside the boundaries of my knowledge Nkhosi,” said the SWALIMO Secretary General.
