MPAKA: Mbali Dlamini-Tsabedze, the widow to Dumsani Mgwazo Tsabedze who was shot and killed by the police has been kicked out of her house by in-laws, she was subsequently deprived of family assets she accumulated with her husband.
Speaking to this Swaziland News on Saturday, the widow said shortly after the funeral of her husband, her in-laws ordered her to leave her house and surrender her marriage certificate.
“We accumulated the assets together after our marriage in 2014 and now they are kicking me out, they told me to leave with the clothes I was wearing,” said the widow.
Reached for comments, Musa Tsabedze, the brother to Dumsani Mgwazo Tsabedze confirmed that there was tension between them as a family and the widow but denied grabbing assets.
“She is not telling the truth that we ordered her to leave the house, she is staying there as we speak. The truth is, some of my brother’s children were born from girlfriends and the wife doesn’t want those children to benefit, she demanded a DNA test,” said the brother to the deceased soldier.
Speaking to this Swaziland News, Colani Hlatswako, the One Billion Rising Africa Coordinator encouraged the widow to stand-up for her rights and consult with women’s rights organizations for appropriate advice.
“Many women are victims of such injustices by their in-laws and we would like to encourage this widow to stand-up for her rights and consult even with women rights organizations,” said the One Billion Rising Coordinator.
One Billon Rising is a global organization advocating for the rights of women and children particularly the girl child.
