Friday, 17th April, 2020

MBABANE:Bheki Mamba, the President of the Swaziland Democratic Nurses Union(SWADNU) is mourning the death of Montigny Investments employee Masitsela Dlamini, the COVID-19 patient who was admitted at the Lubombo Referral Hospital.

Speaking to this Swaziland News, the Nurses Union President warned Cabinet that the country might soon witness more deaths as the virus is likely to spread causing more death in the country if urgent action was not taken to mitigate the situation.

He came hard on government for relaxing the lockdown saying this might result to more infections at the time when the country was struggling with its health system particularly the shortage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs)

“We have mentioned so many times that the world is emphasizing the importance of health care workers being protected while at work. When we request these PPEs, it’s not like we want to protect ourselves but the whole country because as health care workers, we interact with many people, from patients who are exposed to the COVID-19, our families and the society” he said.

Mamba said an unprotected health care worker can be a source of infection for many people such that government might even struggle to trace the contacts.

“Therefore, the PPE prevents the health care worker from transmitting the infection to many people” said the SWADNU President.
