Senior police officers camp outside High Court waiting to stop junior cops protest, Busta Vilakati detained.

MBABANE: Senior police officers camped outside the High Court on Tuesday morning waiting to stop a protest march by junior police officers.

The junior cops are expected to march to the Prime Minister’s office to collect responses, they are demanding a salary increment under Phase Two(2).

Pigg’s Peak police officer Busta Vilakati was grabbed by a group of senior police officers upon arrival to meet other officers, he is currently detained at the Police Headquarters in Mbabane.

Police Spokesperson Superintendent Phindile Vilakati had not responded at the time of compiling this report.

On Monday night, the office of the National Commissioner through the Attorney General(AG) Sifiso Khumalo rushed to the High Court and obtained a court order interdicting the officers from protesting.

“Interdicting the Respondents staff associations members or anyone acting at the behest of the said staff association from engaging in any form of a march or strike action on the 18 October or any other future date,” reads the court order in part.

But the officers told this publication on Monday that they would defy any court order that sought to stop them from protesting.

Political tension is escalating in this tiny Kingdom of eSwatini, police officers are protesting demanding a salary increment at the time when the country is facing a looming second wave of the political unrest.
