LOBAMBA: Heavily armed junior police officers rushed to Parliament on Thursday evening to save their Secretary General Sergeant Dumsile Khumalo.

This comes after Senior Superintendent Clement Sihlongonyane and his team of detectives arrived in Parliament with a warrant of arrest seeking to arrest Khumalo for leading junior officers in a historic protest in demand for a salary increment.

Police Spokesperson Superintendent Phindile Vilakati had not responded at the time of compiling this report.

Khumalo was in Parliament to lobby MPs to move a motion directing Government to increase their salaries under Phase Two(2).

After this Swaziland News broke the story and circulated the warrant of arrest at around 6:30pm on Thursday, police officers quickly communicated in their social media platforms and subsequently rushed to Parliament.

Upon arrival, they surrounded Khumalo and told the detectives that no one would touch their Secretary General.

At around 7:30 pm on Thursday, Khumalo was escorted by armed junior police officers to her house, the detectives were told to back-off.

At the time when the officers were escorting Khumalo, it has been disclosed that another heavily armed team of officers from the Operational Support Services Unit(OSSU) was on its way to Parliament.

However, one of the officers who escorted Khumalo later sent a voice note saying those who were coming to Parliament must stay in the police camps for now as they managed to save their Secretary General.

“Those who were coming this side(Parliament), must stay for now, SG wetfu nangu simphetse ngetandla kute lobekangahamba naye nangu. Everything is fine laba beta ne-warrant letjekile,” said the police officer.

On another note, MPs warned the detectives against arresting the police officer within the Parliament premises.
