MBABANE: Nosizo Simelane, the Secretary General of the Electoral Committee at the Eswatini Medical Christian University(EMCU) has asked the University Management to release students funds within twenty four (24) hours.
This comes after students at the University engaged in a protest on Tuesday demanding refunds and funds for the Students Representative Council \'s (SRC) elections.
Sipho Vilakati, the University\'s Executive Director had not responded at the time of compiling this report.
In a letter addressed to the University Management, the Electrocal Committee Secretary General said as students they were dissapointed with the incompetence and the stubbornness of the Institution\'s Bursar.
\"The management is well aware of the pending elections which were supposed to commence on the 24th October 2022,at 7am. The Bursar however refused to release the funds which are needed to run the elections. Students are in deep agony following their funds which are held by the Bursar\", reads the letter in part.
Reached for comments, Wakhile Lukhele, the Secretary General of the Swaziland National Union of Students (SNUS) said the plight of students in the country was very painful.
\"The plight of students in the country is very painful. We have a Government who, instead of investing in education and the youth, views students as a threat and thus deliberately neglects them. This Government hates people who are learned, because they want people they can control and dictate to without being questioned. Then one wonders how those in power expect this country and its citizens to develop when education is not prioritised and students deliberately neglected\", he said.
