MBABANE: Bhekithemba Gama, the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Education has announced the postponement of exams scheduled for Tuesday, 15th November as the political temperatures continue to rise in the Kingdom.
On Tuesday, political activists and members of the public would be marching to the High Court in Mbabane to demand the release of the incarcerated pro-democracy MPs Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube who were arrested for calling for democratic reforms.
In a statement released on Monday afternoon, the Principal Secretary said the exams were postponed after consultations with the Examination Council adding that schools would however, operate as normal.
“The EGCSE English and SiSwati Papers scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday 15 November 2022, have been postponed to Friday, 9 December 2022,"reads the statement in part.
Reached for comments, Lot Vilakati, the Secretary General of the Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT) said Government was in denial as the situation was not normal in the country.
“If things are normal, then why is Government postponing the exams? What are they expecting those who are not writing exams to do? Government should have closed the schools until the situation normalises. This shows that Government is still in denial that there's a political unrest in eSwatini",said the SNAT Secretary General.
