SIKHUPHE:Namibian President Hage Geingob, the Chairperson of the Southern African Development Community(SADC) Chairperson on Politics, Defense and Security has arrived in this tiny Kingdom of eSwatini as the second wave of the political unrest intensifies.
The Troika Chairperson was welcomed by Prime Minister Cleopas Dlamini on Friday morning and is expected to meet King Mswati to discuss the ongoing political unrest.
Reached for comments earlier, Mary DaSilva,the Spokesperson of the pro-democracy MultiStakeholder Forum (MSF) advised the Southern African Development Community(SADC)Troika Chairperson President Geingob to engage all relevant stakeholders to try and find a lasting solution to the eSwatini political crisis.
“We welcome the developments and any other interventions made by SADC in resolving the crisis faced by the country. We hope President Geingob will not only hold discussions with the King, but will engage all relevant stakeholders,”she said.
In an online statement released on Thursday, the SADC Secretariat said the visit by President Geingob who is the current Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation was informed by the need for a peaceful and stable SADC region.
“The SADC Organ Summit that was held on 16 August in the Democratic Republic of Congo, at which President Geingob assumed the role of Chairperson of the Organ reinforced the need for the SADC Organ to work for a peaceful and stable SADC Region,”reads the statement in part.
Eswatini is in the midst of a political unrest after King Mswati unleashed his forces to shoot and kill dozens of civilians merely for demanding democratic reforms. Now the King is refusing to implement a political dialogue which was recommended by the SADC.
