MANZINI:The Canadian Fund for Local Initiative has donated $25,000.00(Over Three hundred thousand Rands(R300,000.00) to One Billion Rising and the Journey of Hope to fight Gender Based Violence(GBV) in eSwatini.
The donation was announced by Canadian Fund representative Nqobile Dludlu during an event held at Alcon House, Manzini on Thursday.
“The current political crisis,the gender inequality crises in Eswatini, economic crises and the rise of cases of GBV have placed women and girls' rights in a very compromising position.Hence,such initiatives that are led by Journey of hope and One Billion Rising in Eswatini will help empower women and organise communities to come up with solutions to address these challenges in a peaceful way.She applauded that this initiative is giving holistic support by ensuring that women, men and youth are engaged,”said the Canadian Fund representative.
Speaking during the event,One Billion Rising Coordinator Colani Hlatswako,the founder of the Journey of Hope said the project aimed at strengthening the ongoing initiative to create safe spaces and developing based protection strategies on ending violence against women and girls.
“As One Billion Rising and Journey of Hope, we believe that freedom is equal to women empowerment. When women are empowered, they are able to enjoy their freedom,” she said.
The project will be implemented in the Manzini, Lubombo, Shiselweni regions and will end February 2023.
