One Billion Rising Eswatini, an organization that advocates for the rights of women and girls has launched its 2023 campaign under new theme titled “Rising for freedom, creating a new culture”.
In a press statement sent to this Swaziland News on Wednesday,One Billion Rising Africa Regional Coordinator, Colani Hlatjwako said over the years, the women rights organization has proven that women will never surrender their freedoms and rights.
Hlatjwako said the theme also is about celebrating ten(10)years of One Billion Rising existence.
“Eswatini women are determined to bring change or shift in the patriarchal system in society that continues to create a culture that discriminates against all women and girls. It is also time to remind capitalists that no amount of money can replace the natural environment,women are the custodians of land and the environment,”said the One Billion Rising Coordinator.
Hlatjwako said One Billion Rising has fostered strong relationships throughout the years and has built solidarity with organisations, government institutions, movements, communities to bring change in society.
Some of the partners issued solidarity statement in support of the new call include the European Union(EU) Embassy in Eswatini, Swaziland National Association of Teachers(SNAT), Liphimbo LaboMake Eswatini, Yebo Art Gallery, CANGO, Journey of Hope Eswatini, Swaziland Action Group Against SWAGAA, SAFAIDS,Women Unlimited, Yibutse Green Action, Woman Farmer Foundation and individual women's rights activists (that Include NNLC President Sibongile Mazibuko).
