MBABANE: Colani Maseko, the President of the Swaziland National Union of Students(SNUS) has thanked Swaziland News editor Zweli Martin Dlamini for his intervention after the suspension of Limkokwing students.
The editor posted on his Facebook Page that is followed by over 200 000 readers a week ago warning the Limkokwing Director Tfobile Gumede against suspending the students, the editor then urged the students to go back to class with immediate effect.
“We thank the editor for his intervention and advice to the Limkokwing Director in this matter, the students are now back in class. We have gathered that the Director was living in fear after seeing the editor’s Facebook Post but what has happened now has created peace among both parties being the students and the Management,” said the Students President.
Efforts to reach Limkokwing University Director Tfobile Dlamini-Gumede proved unsuccessful at the time of compiling this report.
It has been disclosed that the students returned to class after a verdict by the Disciplinary Appeals Committee following a hearing on the 25th November 2022, two days after the editor’s Facebook Post.
“The Appeals Committee found the verdict of the Disciplinary Committee to be fair. However, having considered your mitigation the Appeals Committee has decided that your suspension be suspended for the entire duration of your study at Limkokwing University on the following conditions; That you are not found to have committed the same offenses and/or any offense in which violence and or damage to property is an element. A formal written assurance from you that you will not be found engaging, leading, initiating, causing or supporting any unlawful strike, picketing, demonstration, lockout, disruption of classes and any other normal University business,” reads the verdict in part.
On another note, Swaziland News editor Zweli Martin Dlamini thanked the Limkokwing Management for ensuring that the students returned to class but urged both parties to engage in a dialogue and review the conditions.
“The fact that the students are back to class is highly appreciated and the conditions might be reviewed through a dialogue by both parties. For example, you can’t discourage students from protesting because protesting is a human right. Students must respect the University authorities, the support they received doesn’t mean they must misbehave. Otherwise, we appreciate such leadership, it’s always better to resolve issues before they manifest into trouble,” said the editor.
