MBABANE: Thulani Hlatshwako, the Secretary General of the National Public Service and Allied Workers Union(NAPSAWU) has confirmed that employees of the Fire Department wanted Government to address their security as a matter of urgency before they attended to night emergencies.
Speaking to this Swaziland News, the NAPSAWU Secretary General said they warned Government several times that they would stop working at night if they were not protected.
This comes after some Fire Department employees were attacked by the pro-democracy Solidarity Forces and subsequently warned to refrain from disturbing their night operations.
“It’s that Fire Department employees have stopped working at night because Government is failing to address their security,” said the NAPSAWU Secretary General.
Government Spokesperson Alpheous Nxumalo had not responded at the time of compiling this report.
Employees of the Fire Department were warned by the Commander of the Solidarity Forces not to disturb their operations by responding to emergencies at night.
