MBABANE: Nhlanganiso Zwane, the Director of Maduduza Zwane Labour Brokers allegedly pledged to pay employees three thousand five hundred Rands(R3,500.00) per month.
This comes after this Swaziland News released an audio where editor Zweli Martin Dlamini exposed that the employees were receiving five hundred Rands(R500) per-fortnight.
A majority of Eswatini workers are living in poverty after government colluded with employers to undermine employees, some receive as little as R562.00 per-fortnight.
On Wednesday, Zwane and the employees were engaged in negotiations within the Eswatini Brewery premises, that was when the Labour Broker pledged to pay twenty Rands(R20.00) per-hour pending further negotiations and this,is contained in an audio recording of the meeting
When this publication contacted Nhlanganiso Zwane, the Director of Maduduza Zwane Labour Brokers, he terminated the conversation immediately after learning that it was this journalist.
Reached for comments, Wander Mkhondza, the Secretary General of the Amalgamated Trade Union Congress of Swaziland(ATUSWA) applauded the collaboration between trade unions, political parties and the independent media in advocating for the rights of workers.
“As trade unions, we appreciate the good work done by this publication and political parties in amplifying the voices regarding the plight of workers. We now urge the Management at Brewery to commit in writing, that they will pay the employees, the said amount,” said the ATUSWA Secretary General.
One of the Brewery employees who was present during the meeting told this Swaziland News that, they decided to go back to work based on the R20.00 per-hour commitment made by the Management.
“We decided to go back to work after the Management made a commitment to pay us R20.00 per hour.That money when calculated by eight(8) hours is R160.00 per-day and R3,840.00 per-month. However, we agreed verbally pending further negotiations and we are expecting the Management to commit in writing,” said the employee.
