MBABANE: Bhekithemba Gama, the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Education and Training says exams would continue undisturbed after the court issued an order stopping the public transport national shutdown.
“The courts have issued an interdiction on same, I have just been advised”,said the Principal Secretary.
But Lot Vilakati, the Secretary General of the Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT) advised teachers to remove themselves from danger due to the imminent national shutdown by public transport workers.
Speaking to this Swaziland News on Monday,the SNAT Secretary General advised teachers to invoke section 18 of Occupational Health and Safety Act of 2001.
“When public transport is not working, police and soldiers harass, beat and shoot people going to work,that means the conditions are not safe.Therefore SNAT resolved to invoke section 18 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act of 2001 to remove ourselves from the dangerous workplaces until the situation normalises,” said the SNAT Secretary General.
Public transport workers are expected to participate in a national shutdown on Tuesday and Wednesday in demand for democracy and the release of incarcerated pro-democracy Members of Parliament Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube.
