MATSANJENI NORTH: Senator Themba Masuku, the Acting Prime Minister has launched a R4million water project for Member of Parliament(MP) Phila Buthelezi’s Matsanjeni North Constituency.
According to eSwatini Government online platforms, the project will benefit about 2700 residents from 450 homesteads in Mavalela, Nhlengesheni, Sibovini and Magwanyana under Matsanjeni North Inkhundla. It is partly funded by the Taiwan Government and implemented by Micro Projects and the Eswatini Water Services Corporation, while community members contributed E300 per homestead and the two chiefdoms a combined E135 000.
“This is a milestone event which responds to His Majesty’s Government calls for intensive investment in water infrastructure to bring potable water to the citizens of Eswatini as enshrined in our constitution. The Lubombo region has been earmarked as an area which needs the most attention as it has seriously suffered from a number of past drought events (including the 2015/2016 drought spell). It is important to note that His Majesty’s Government recently commissioned another massive potable water supply project that benefits the entire Mpolonjeni Inkhundla and part of Lugongolweni Inkhundla in the Lubombo region. This is another Government effort to make sure that the country is water secure and is protected from the negative effects brought by the climate change phenomenon,” said the Acting Prime Minister as quoted by Government online platforms on Friday.
The event was attended by among others, Labour Minister Phila Buthelezi, the area’s MP.
Ministers Harries Bulunga and Phila Buthelezi (also Matsanjeni North MP) share a moment during the launch of Phase I of the Maphungwane-Lukhetseni potable water and sanitation scheme.
