MBABANE: Colani Maseko, the President of the Swaziland National Union of Students(SNUS)says as University students, they are being persecuted by the State for triggering the ongoing political unrest.
The Students President released the organization’s End of Year Statement on Saturday where he touched on national issues and how the ongoing political unrest was triggered by the “Justice for Thabani Campaign”.
“Since the JusticeForThabani Campaign led by this giant students union in May 2021 which culminated into a national uprising, we as students and the entire nation have experienced and still continue to experience magnitudes and unparalleled levels of brutality from the state. Earlier in the year, the state successfully targeted and persecuted the union’s president on frivolous charges of sedition and malicious damage to property. The state further unleashed police and the army to abduct and torture members of the National Executive Committee, comrade Sakhile Nxumalo (who was electrocuted until he collapsed) and comrade Sibusiso Nkwanyana before later trying to gun down Cde Wakhile Lukhele in broad daylight,” reads the statement in part.
