Tuesday, 3rd January, 2023

MBABANE: Vusi Dlamini, the Eswatini Revenue Service(ERS) Corporate Affairs Director has advised businesses to utilize the Debt Relief Programme announced by Finance Minister Neal Rijikernberg to clear their outstanding taxes and avoid penalties.

The Revenue Authority Spokesperson was responding to questions from this Swaziland News on Tuesday after being asked to clarify the issue of Bio Medics(PTY) LTD, a company that was subjected to heavy penalties by the revenue authority.

Evidence in our possession suggests that Bio Medics was owing Eighty- eight thousand Rands(R88,000.00),however,  the ERS demanded over Three hundred thousand Rands(R300,000.00) after imposing penalties.

“We must also mention that a few months back (around May 2022), the Minister for Finance introduced a Debt Relief Programme to help clear penalties and interest for those taxpayers who were in debt. We had thousands of businesses enrolling for this programme as it was open to everyone.Lastly, as a matter of principle, we always advise all our clients to come engage with us in an event they find themselves in situations where they owe taxes, our doors are always open. There is also the newly established Revenue and Tax Tribunal where all tax matters may be reported in case our clients are unhappy with the ERS decision,” said the Revenue Service Corporate Affairs Director.
