MBABANE: The African National Congress(ANC) has re-affirmed its calls for democratic reforms in the Kingdom of eSwatini
The ANC pledged to intensify its support for programs of progressive political and social movement in eSwatini particularly the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO).
The South African ruling party has been holding its 55th Policy and Elective Conference in the past weeks to discuss national issues including foreign policies among others.
“The ANC together with its alliance partners should merge our solidarity campaigns on the basis of a commonly agreed framework of action. The ANC should intensify its support for programs of progressive political and social movement in eSwatini, such as the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO), the Swaziland Youth Congress(SWAYOCO) among others,” reads the ANC resolution in part.
Reached for comments,Mlungisi Makhanya, the President of the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO)welcomed the re-affirmation of support for PUDEMO by the South African ruling party.
“We welcome the re-affirmation of that resolution by the ANC.You will recall that, that the resolution was taken even in the 54th National Conference in Nazarec in 2017 and what the 55th Conference has done, is to re-affirm that resolution. We have always known that the ANC as a party is not confused when it comes to a stance on Swaziland. We think this becomes even more important because it is re-affirmed at the time when the Deputy President of the Republic is said to be in Swaziland, and Tinkhundla is hell-bent on distorting it to suggest that the position of the South African ruling party is that of supporting Mswati’s autocratic regime. So,we indeed, welcome it,”said the PUDEMO President.
