LUDZELUDZE: Mangaliso Jubillee Kunene, a military police officer, had to lie to other soldiers that his relatives, who were attacking him in a dramatic land dispute, were members of the Swaziland International Solidarity Forces (SISF).
The incident happened at Ludzeludze-Boyane on Friday,thirteen(13)youth members from the community who had come to protect Jubillee’s mother from the rouge soldier were heavily assaulted by armed soldiers and subsequently hospitalized.
It has been disclosed that members of the military arrived within a few minutes after being misled by Mangaliso Jubille Kunene that members of the Solidarity Forces who burned Prince Sicalo’s home were attacking Ludzeludze.
Efforts to reach Mangaliso Jubille Kunene for a comment proved unsuccessful at the time of compiling this report.
Reached for comments, Mahlubi Dlamini confirmed that soldiers assaulted them after Jubille falsely branded them as members of the Solidarity Forces.
"We just intervened after he attacked his mother and relatives in a land dispute, but he branded us as Solidarity Forces to get immediate attention from other soldiers for a backup. The police took us to the hospital, and the soldier was later taken to the police station. However, we have just been informed that, while at the police station, he asked to go back home to collect his clothes but later disappeared,"said Mahlubi Dlamini, one of the victims.
Iron Kunene, the soldier’s younger brother, confirmed that Jubillee used the army against them as a family by claiming they were members of the Solidarity Forces.
"In the process, innocent youth members within the community were assaulted. We cannot even say it’s a land dispute because he knows that the land does not belong to him," he said.
A questionnaire was sent to both Army Spokesperson Lieutenant Tengetile Khumalo and Police Spokesperson Phindile Vilakati; however, both of them had not responded at the time of compiling this report.
On another note, Mangaliso Jubillee Kunene allegedly opened a criminal case against his son after the attack on Friday; however, at the time of compiling this report, police had not charged the soldier who used state weapons against his relatives.
