SIPHOCOSINI:Themba Mabuza, a member of the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO) was hunted by alleged State ‘killers’ last week before the assassination of human rights lawyer Thulani Maseko.
Mabuza,the National Organizer of the Swaziland United Democratic Front(SUDF) is alleged to be among the list of political activists who are wanted dead by King Mswati’s mercenaries.
Reached for comments, Lucky Dlamini, the SUDF Chairperson confirmed that Mabuza’s was being hunted by the State adding that they adopted means of strengthening his security.
“It’s true that Mabuza, our National Organizer is hunted by the State,we adopted some security measures to ensure his safety,” said the SUDF Chairperson.
A resident of Siphocosini in the outskirts of Mbabane told this Swaziland News on Wednesday that a Toyota double cab arrived in the area three(3) times asking for Mabuza’s whereabouts.
“When they came for the third time, they did not ask anything but went straight to park next to Mabuza’s home, monitoring who was going in and out, this happened last week,” said the resident.
Police Spokesperson Superintendent Phindile Vilakati had not responded to our questions at the time of compiling this report.
King Mswati allegedly hired mercenaries to kill political activists who are calling for democratic reforms.
But Deputy Prime Minister(DPM) Themba Masuku addressed a press conference on Thursday and denied that Government had hired mercenaries to kill political activists and other citizens.
“Government has not hired any mercenaries.However, there are Security experts that have been engaged to assist with certain aspects of the country’s security issues. EmaSwati must be wary of proponents of disinformation and unfounded allegations.Further,we must allow for investigations to take place unhindered and for due process to follow thereafter,” said the DPM.
