MBABANE: King Mswati and his Government have dumped thousands of Free Primary Education(FPE) beneficiaries, some children are visiting companies seeking donations.
Mswati, an absolute Monarch allegedly looted billions of taxpayers money resulting to Government struggling to fund social programs that include scholarships for University students, free education and the employment of teachers.
It has been disclosed that the crisis erupted after the Free Primary Education(FPE) beneficiaries reached Grade seven(7), they are now expected to pay school fees from Form one(1)to Form five(5)in a country where a majority of workers earn around one thousand Rands(R1000.00)per-month.
Government Spokesperson Alpheous Nxumalo had not responded at the time of compiling this report.
Reached for comments, Lot Vilakati, the Secretary General of the Swaziland National Association of Teachers(SNAT) confirmed that children and parents were facing a serious crisis.
“It’s true that parents are grounded and children who are supposed to be in Form one(1) are struggling after being dumped by Government under the Free Primary Education(FPE). Many Swazis are broke and can’t afford to pay school fees. As teachers, we have been trying to pay school fees for some of the vulnerable children, but now we can’t afford because Government is refusing to employ us and some are on contracts,”he said.
The Secretary General of the eSwatini teachers union said the struggling children were over one hundred thousand(100 000) and urged Government to also consider funding Secondary and High School education as Swazis were broke.
