MBABANE: Sibongile Mazibuko, the President of the Ngwane National Liberatory Congress(NNLC) says Deputy Prime Minister Senator Themba Masuku was a member of the political party.
Speaking to the Swaziland News current affairs programme where she shared the history of the NNLC, Mazibuko said Masuku was then swallowed by the Tinkhundla system together with ex-DPM Albert Shabangu, former Prime Minister Obed Dlamini and others.
“Themba Masuku was our member together with the likes of Obed,he then joined the system. But we understood because others told us that they were forced by hunger to join the system,” said the NNLC President.
A questionnaire was sent to the Deputy Prime Minister, however, he had not responded at the time of compiling this report.
On another note, the NNLC President said some of their members that included founding President Ambrose Zwane, Prince Dumisa and Princess Betfusile were persecuted by King Sobhuza for their political beliefs.
Mazibuko said what was happening to incarcerated Members of Parliament(MPs) Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube was exactly what happened to their members who were critical of the regime.
“Zwane was persecuted through the 60 days detention without trial. At some point, after serving the 60-days, security officers would go to his home and arrest him again saying a royal order had been issued that he must go back to prison,” said the NNLC President.
