MBABANE:Sibusiso Nhlabatsi,a highly regarded human rights lawyer says the resolution by the European Parliament will ground eSwatini projects as the EU remains the country’s major development partner.
The European Parliament passed a resolution this week urging the EU to consider suspending funding to eSwatini amid the killing of civilians including human rights defenders by King Mswati.
“This resolution will ground social projects in the country. As you might be aware, the EU is funding almost everything that benefits the people, taxpayers money funds royal projects,” said the human rights lawyer.
Alpheous Nxumalo,the Government Spokesperson had not responded at the time of compiling this report.
Eswatini is under international pressure amid the killing of civilians, the pressure escalated after Mswati allegedly unleashed his mercenaries and security forces to assassinate human rights lawyer Thulani Maseko.
