Eswatini human rights defender Mary DaSilva honored by African Human Rights Defenders with an award.

MBABANE:Eswatini highly regarded human rights defender Mary DaSilva has been honored by the African Human Rights Defenders with an award.

Speaking to this Swaziland News after receiving the award, DaSilva said the African Human Rights Defenders Shield Awards are awarded to outstanding people who promote and defend human rights in their countries.

“These are individuals that contribute to change peacefully and courageously in the face of the many challenges,risks and threats they face,”she said.

Normally, there are six (6) awards given out; five (5) regional and one overall (continental) but this year only one was awarded to the eventual winner. 

2023 saw the 4th Edition of the awards held in Ethiopia last week where the winner was Mary Pais DaSilva, a Woman Human Rights Defender from Swaziland.
