MBABANE:Ernest Mkhonta the Managing Director of Eswatini Electricity Company ( EEC) has signed a contract with Taiwan Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Services(TEMES) for a gas fired power plant feasibility study.
Reached for comments,Khaya Mavuso, the Eswatini Electricity Company(EEC) Communications Manager confirmed that the company was planning to establish a baseload gas-fired power plant at Edwaleni area to supply the required electricity for current and future load demand.
“The combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) is envisaged to be 250 MW and targeted at addressing the baseload requirements for the country.This project was proposed as an alternative of a coal-fired power plant," he said.
TEMES Vice President Hengshan Lin said the plans to increase internal generation for Eswatini was an urgent matter, and therefore, his team would work around the clock to see through the completion of the study.
