LABOUR MINISTER PHILA BUTHELEZI:We won’t approve new applications for scholarships despite receiving R286million.

MBABANE:Phila Buthelezi, the Minister of Labour and Social Security says Government won’t accept new applications for scholarships despite receiving R286million in the national budget.

Addressing the media on Monday, the Minister said the Ministry re-iterates that no appeals will be considered. 

“The additional 1 000 scholarships will be awarded to students who have been interviewed and found to meet the selection criteria but were not initially awarded due to the limited quota (2 500).The 1 000 scholarships will be distributed evenly among those local tertiary institutions who fell below their normal quota allocations. There will be no further scholarship awards over and above the available additional awards granted by Government.We wish to reassure the public that the Government of the Kingdom of Eswatini will continue to place the interests of emaSwati students at the centre of its focus and that, in spite of the prevailing challenges, everything possible will be done to ensure that the economy of the Kingdom of Eswatini remains a going concern and caters for them,” said the Minister as quoted by Government online platforms.
