MBABANE:Emmanuel Ndlangamandla,the former Executive Director of the Coordinating Assembly of Non-Governmental Organizations(CANGO)has expressed concerns that elected Members of Parliament(MPs)are arrested for speaking politics in Parliament.
Addressing officials of the Elections and Boundaries Commission(EBC) during a civic voter education held at Fonteyn, Mbabane on Saturday,the MultiStakeholder Forum(MSF)Treasurer General said he had nothing against the EBC,he praised the team for the good work they were doing in educating the public about elections.
“But the problem here is the fact that the people we elect do not have the power to form a Government.When they arrive there,they become subordinates of unelected individuals and they are arrested for speaking politics. It would have been better if once they arrive in Parliament,they elected a Prime Minister among themselves or form a Government,”said the former CANGO Director.
Eswatini will hold Parliamentary elections this year amid a political crisis,political parties are banned from participating in these elections.
