MPULUZI:Police have failed to arrest King Mswati’s soldiers who brutally shot and killed Amen Mavimbela merely for attempting to cross at the Mpuluzi informal crossing last weekend.
It has been disclosed that while Mavimbela was crossing to South Africa ‘illegally’ through the informal crossing, soldiers opened fire and killed him.
Speaking to this Swaziland News on Wednesday evening,Sambulo Mavimbela said his brother was killed by soldiers who opened fire while the deceased was travelling with his other brother, Kenneth Nkambule.
"It’s true that he was killed by soldiers, they shot and killed him while he was crossing at the Mpuluzi informal crossing", he said.
The Times of eSwatini reported on Tuesday that Amen Mavimbela was admitted and subsequently died at Mankayane Hospital after being shot by the soldiers.
A questionnaire was sent to Army Spokesperson Lieutenant Tengetile Khumalo, however, she had not responded at the time of compiling this report.
On Tuesday, Police Spokesperson Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed to the Times that police were investigating the matter.
But the Police Spokesperson failed to respond to subsequent questions from this publication when asked why the soldiers were not arrested for killing Mavimbela.
Reached for comments,Sibongile Mazibuko, the President of the Ngwane National Liberatory Congress (NNLC),said it was very unfortunate to note that citizens are killed with impunity in eSwatini by Mswati’s soldiers and the police.
“The soldiers are not providing valid reasons why he was killed, you can’t kill a citizen merely for using a informal crossing,"said the NNLC President.
The late Amen Mavimbela.
