MBABANE:Phila Buthelezi, the Minister of Labour and Security has appointed members of the Wages Council 2023-2026,eSwatini Government online platforms reported on Thursday.
The members are tasked with, among other things, setting minimum terms and conditions of employment, including minimum rates of remuneration.
“Ministry has noted that in some sectors, the basic minimum standards that are established by the Wages Councils and published through the Regulations of Wages Orders are treated as if they are the gospel truth with nothing beyond them that can be done by employers. We want to correct this misinformation,it is not correct. We strongly urge social partners not to abdicate their responsibilities and thus unnecessarily burden the Wages Councils with a responsibility that is not within their statutory mandate.Wages Councils are not meant to usurp the responsibilities of Trade Unions and Employers at enterprise level. You can refer to the provisions of Section 6(2) of the Wages Act in this regard,”said the Labour Minister as quoted by Government online platforms.
The Chairpersons of the Wages Councils are:Samukelisiwe Simelane, Linda Nkambule, Zodwa Dlamini,Nkhosikhona Dlamini, Ben Simelane,Khulile Dlamini, Sihle Dludlu,Vusi Masilela,Sive Dlamini, Nsindiso Thwala,Musa Sibandze,Derrick Jele, Eric Maziya,Bongani Fakudze,Mandla Mamba and Ephraim Dlamini.
